What counts as novelty
Toothpaste tubes, coconut-oil jars, energy cans, emoji balls, mystery capsules, sports-ball sets and holiday figures. These are the shapes that go viral for six weeks and then disappear from search.
Buy small, buy often
Order one or two cartons of a viral shape, not a pallet. A supplier catalog we reviewed lists a glitter-gel hand at 9 × 9 cm, about 113 g, 288 pieces per carton — one carton is enough to test a display.
Seasonal novelty
Halloween (pumpkin, ghost, skull, coffin), Christmas (Santa, tree, snowman, gingerbread), Easter and Valentine's are predictable. Order them 90 days ahead of the retail window; see our seasonal buying calendar.
Speed matters more than price
A supplier with an existing mould library ships a novelty shape in weeks; a new mould takes longer and may miss the trend. Ask which shapes are in stock moulds before asking for custom.
Compliance
Novelty shapes with small protrusions (antennae, tails, stems) are the usual small-parts failures. Check the ASTM F963-23 report covers the exact design, not just the material.
