FOB is the starting line
FOB price covers the goods on the vessel at a China port. Everything after that — ocean freight, insurance, US port fees, duty, drayage and warehousing — is yours.
Freight per piece
A 20-foot container holds roughly 28 CBM. If a carton of 288 standard squishies is about 0.075 CBM, freight per piece is small; jumbo pieces at a quarter of that density cost four times as much to ship. Always ask for CBM per 1,000 pieces.
Duty
HTS 9503 toys carry a 0 percent base rate into the US, plus applicable additional tariffs on Chinese origin that change with policy; confirm the current stack with a broker before quoting retail.
Testing and CPC
Budget for third-party testing per design and per material change. Suppliers that already hold current reports save you this cost — ask.
Packaging and labels
Printed header cards, tracking labels and display boxes add cents per piece but decide whether a retailer accepts the goods.
Rule of thumb
For standard squishies, landed cost typically runs two to three times FOB once freight, duty, testing and packaging are included. Price the retail tier from landed, not FOB.
